Literature Review Editing Prompts

Review of Literature

The review, that you write for a particular literature is aimed to justify and explain why you chose a certain topic and what aspect of this subject have you considered particularly for your research. This is why a literature review is also called the background of the literature.

Writing a literature review is not a one time job. You have to read it thoroughly and look for areas where you might have lost track. Once you finish writing the review then you will have to edit it as well. This is a crucial step of your writing process because you have to remove all the flaws here and fix all the bugs in your paper.

Recheck the guidelines.

If your professor has specified a certain format and font, stick to it. During the editing process recall what your professor has demanded.

  • Was the style of formatting APA, MLA or some other?
  • What was the margin length
  • The line spacing
  • The page numbers
  • Header and footer
  • Citation format

Make sure you follow exactly the same requirements as specified by your instructor

The flow of writing

While writing the paper you want to cover everything and explain your argument which sometimes leads in missing the flow. When you read it objectively and through the start you might come across places that lack coherency.

  • There must not be any open-ended statements that give a vague image to your writing.
  • Rephrase any sentences that seem confusing.
  • Remember to keep your paper easily readable and comprehensive.
  • You might have developed an understanding of the subject during.
  • extensive research and compilation but these terms will be new to your audience and instructor who might be hearing it for the first time.
  • Avoid the use of slang language and short forms that people may not be familiar with.
  • Keep your tone formal and do not use any jargons.
  • Make sure the transition is smooth between paragraphs as well as sentences.
  • The paper should be targeted at the masses not some scholar.
  • There must be a logical order between your supporting evidences and arguments

Proofreading

Now you have done all the difficult portions of your paper. The last step you have to take before you finally submit is proof read your work. This means checking for grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Give your paper a detailed reading and do it after a break from writing so that your mind is fresh. You may also ask a friend or colleague to do the proofreading as well. That way you will have a double check on your content.
